Japan 2015

James, one of the Scouts at 5th Hyde, has been selected to attend the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan. He will represent the United Kingdom as part of a contingent of 36 young people from throughout the Northwest region.

James was one of the Patrol Leaders at 5th Hyde when he was accepted to join the Japan Jamboree Contingent.  He has been a member of the Scout Group since joining Beavers at the age of 6. Working through the Scout progressive awards scheme, James has gained his Bronze and Silver Chief Scout Awards in Beavers and Cubs respectively and at 13, James was the youngest recipient a Chief Scout Gold award in the Greater Manchester East County in 2013.

James has now moved on from 5th Hyde Scouts to join Explorer Scouts at MadhattStilts cutouters Explorer Unit in Denton. He took part in taster activities such as their go-carting evening and camps with the Unit before becoming a member. He has started his Duke of Edinburgh Awards and has undertaken a consoling expedition as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. James keeps in touch with his friends at 5th Hyde as a Young Leader, helping with Cubs on a weekly basis.

James has a passion for exploration, recently giving a talk to the other scouts about his trips to numerous Welsh castles, and is planning a walking expedition with the other older Scouts at 5th Hyde. Of course, his trip to Japan as part of the 23rd World Scout Jamboree will be his biggest challenge yet!

Outside Scouts, James is a keen Archer, and even owns his own long bow! He enjoys computer games (especially Minecraft) and devises his own games in his spare time.
