5th Hyde Group Camp 2012

8 December 2012
The group had a fantastic time at Ashworth Valley Scout Camp in Rochdale over the bank holiday weekend. The Cubs and Scouts camped for three nights in cold conditions with the Beavers joining us for the day. Activities included climbing, zip wire, grass sledging and pedal carts.

As well as the site facilities Cubs were put through their paces to achieve the athletics activity badge and following a hedgerow walk, their naturalist activity badge. Overall 81 badges were earned by the young people of the group.

The following article was written by Sammie – one of the scouts as part of her writers activity badge…

I really enjoyed group camp from the 4th to 7th of May 2012. This is not just because of the different site and its different activities, it is mainly because of being there and having fun with my friends in scouts.

I also thought it was fun the way we did 3 different activities. My favorite of those new activities I have to admit was the Peddle Karts because I won my big brother at a race we did with them. I hope we get to go on them at another campsite. But I did like the way I conquered my fear of heights on the Zip Wire.

If we ever went to Ashworth Valley for a scout camp I think everyone would love to go on the zip wire again seen as it is a change for us because our County campsite, Linnet Clough, doesn’t have a Zip Wire but it does have the pedal kart just we have never had the time to use them because we are on other activities.
